Who is Otto? Otto is our dog. He is a 3 year old (born Aug 2023) Aussie/German Shepard mix. We also have a smaller 30lb Beagle/Corgi mix named Kismet. She is approx 8 years old as of September 2026.
Who owns the company? Stephanie has over 10 years of pet sitting experience. In 2016, Steph opened Love Pet Sitting. Love Pet Sitting is a busy company offering daily outs, walks, playtime, house care and overnight sitting. John is an Army war veteran, John served as a paratrooper in OEF in Afghanistan in 2003-2004. His happy place is with dogs. John has fostered dogs in the past and has worked with Stephanie as a pet sitter for the better part of 2026. John and Stephanie met in 2025 and had been dreaming of opening up a doggy daycare together. That dream became a reality in late summer 2026. Both Steph and John are certified in canine CPR and 1st aid through Pet Tech.
Why should my dog go to your doggy day care? Doggy day care gives your pup a chance to socialize in a small, quaint home environment. We provide a simple routine of run, play, relaxation, and other dogs without adding in the stress of a commercial kennel noises or a full pack of dogs. We take 3-4 dogs at a time, plus our 2, Otto and Kismet
Why don't you take intact dogs? Male intact dogs tend to have aggression issues with other adult male dogs, and female intact dogs go into what is called HEAT, similar to a woman’s monthly cycle. The dog will give off a pheromone that attracts male dogs and often fights occur between them. To stop any potential issues from intact dogs, it is our policy not to take in any adult dog, of any size, that is still intact Puppies that haven’t been fixed yet are fine as long as they are up to date on shots
Why don't you have cameras in your house? I want to log in and see my dog? John and I run a small in-our-home home based pet sitting business. Since this operation is in our home, we prefer not having cameras set up that can be accessed by clients. Instead, we provide communication, pupdates and videos throughout your dog’s stay.
Why is an extra walk or a dog park run a separate charge? Our full and half days come with walks and play time in the back yard. We will provide 2 walks in a half day and 3 walks in a full day, plus outdoor and indoor play. We do offer extra walks and dog park runs as an add on, but not all clients will want that, so each additional service is an a-la-cart add on.
What if my dog comes home with a canine disease? We do not take dogs that are not up to date on shots. If your dog does not have every vaccination out there, including kennel cough and Lyme, we encourage you to get them before working with ANY day care facility. We have waiver forms to fill out. If you choose to not vaccinate your dog on all spreadable canine diseases and your dog becomes infected while with us, we do not take any responsibility.
What happens if there is a dog fight? Dogs fight. That will happen from time to time. We have someone here at all times to monitor the dogs and try our best to prevent fights. We keep toys at a minimum and have a large enough space to separate dogs if issues arise.
Where do you walk dogs in the neighborhood? Our neighborhood is sidewalk heavy and very dog friendly. We walk dogs away from the busier roads in residential areas.
What if my dog is not friendly towards other dogs but I have to travel. Will you take my dog? No. If your dog is known to have aggression towards other dogs, we will not take your dog. However, our parent company, Love Pet Sitting may be able to help. The sitters from LPS can move into your home while you travel. Schedules and distance do apply to every scenario. Prices will vary.
Are you associated with a vet in case of issue? No. We would refer to you and your vet of choice.
Where will my dog sleep? We provide crates, couches and human beds for your dog to be comfortable. Your dog can sleep wherever you prefer.
What will my dog be fed? For food and snacks. We ask that you bring your dog’s food and any snacks that you want your dog to have. While we do have kibble, meal toppers and lots of variety of snacks here your dog is welcome to, we leave that decision up to you.
Do you sell food or snacks? Not at this time. That may change in the future.
Will someone be with my dog at every moment? Yes. Between John, Stephanie and our staff, we will have someone here at all times.
My dog is afraid of thunder and fireworks. Do you light fireworks or are in an area where they are heard loudly. How will my dog be treated? We do not light fireworks. While we wish we could control those that do, we are in an area where fireworks can be heard. We tend to play loud music or drown out the sound with tv, and use play for distraction. We will medicate your dog with medication you provide if that is your want. We sit with your dog and speak softly and try our best to calm your animal. We understand loud noises can make dogs frightened and we are experienced with calming dogs,
Are you insured and what credentials do you have? Yes! Otto’s Doggy Day Care, which is a division of Love Pet Sitting, is fully insured, bonded and John and I are both trained and certified in canine CPR and 1st aid. Through Love Pet sitting, we are also vet recommended and have placed top 3 in Best of the Shoreline yearly since 2019.
What if I don't want my dog drinking from a communal water dish? Unfortunately with the setup we have, regulating dog water is impossible. All dogs will have access to multiple water dishes around our house.
My dog isn't kid friendly and has a history of aggression towards kids. The good news is, we have no kids at our house. The bad news. Clients often pick up their dog with their children in tow and we have met kids on our dog walks before. If your dog has a history of aggression towards children, we cannot take your dog.
I have cats or other pets at home. What happens to them if you have my dog and I need to travel? Love Pet Sitting, our parent company, can help. We have a large staff and as long as you’re in our pet sitting area, one of our staff members can do cat visits. Prices will vary.
Do you require a meet-and-greet before accepting a new dog? Yes. We offer a free meet and greet at your home, and at ours, to make sure the match works on all sides Sometimes dogs can show minor aggressive behaviors at a 1st visit, so we ask that a meet and greet at our house be at least 30 minutes so all dogs can meet with less of a time constraint. We have also done meet and greets at the Guilford dog park.
What information do you need from me before my dog's first visit? We have forms we will send you.
Does my dog need to be up to date on vaccinations? Yes. We will not work with any dog that is not up to date with rabies. While we encourage you to get the vaccines for other doggie ailments like kennel cough or Lyme, we cannot force you to. We have a waiver we need you to sign understanding any transmissible canine disease not vaccinated for is your responsibility to treat and handle should your dog come in contact while at our facility.
Do you require flea, tick, and parasite prevention? Yes. If your dog has fleas or any parasites, we cannot take your dog. If we find you knowingly brought a dog to us with fleas or parasites, you will be held responsible for treatment of our home, dogs and any client dogs.
Does my dog need to be house-trained? Yes. We understand accidents happen from time to time, but we do not take in dogs or puppies that are not housebroken or that are pee pad trained.
What ages and sizes of dogs do you accept? We love all sizes of dogs. From 2 pounds to 200 pounds are welcome. However we do not take in puppies that are not up to date on shots and we do not take older dogs with severe mobility issues.
How do you determine whether my dog is a good fit for your daycare? We have meetings we conduct to meet the dog and we also recommend meeting in a neutral spot like the Guilford Dog Park so Stephanie can monitor the canine behaviors.
How many dogs do you care for at one time? We love dogs and we wish we can take them all in. However due to the size of our home and the amount of people we have on staff, we do not exceed 4 client dogs at once, totaling 6 dogs at our home
How do you introduce a new dog to the group? We have gates in our home separating the different parts of the house. We keep all dogs on leash as we bring new dogs in. Dogs get to smell each other through the gates and once tensions have decreased, we take down the gates and allow the dogs, still leashed, to say hello. Once we know everyone is fine, leashes come off.
Does my dog get downtime or nap time during the day? Yes. Although we are not a kennel, we are home based pet sitting, the rules are still the same. After playtime AND after eating, dogs have relaxation time for 30-60 minutes. We know some dogs are prone to bloat, so after a meal, we encourage down time anyways, and then play time begins again.
What does a typical day at Otto's Doggy Play Care look like? Wake up is between 6 and 7. We go out for a quick pee and then come in for breakfast. We separate dogs for feedings. Approx 40 min after breakfast, we take a walk around the neighborhood, followed by play time in and out of the house. Dogs are monitored daily and will have access to water, toys and the occasional snack. Dinner will vary depending on when guest dogs are used to eating. Our dogs eat at 6:30 (AM&PM}, but won’t argue if we feed them early. We have AM walks after breakfast, a mid day walk, and an after dinner walk, as well as a fully fenced in back yard for safe play.
Can my dog have one-on-one time if they need a break from the group? Yes! John’s parents live next door. We can take our dogs to his parents for an afternoon if your dog needs a break. We also have gates in the house if your dog needs a 30 minute breather rather than a 3 hour breather.
Can you accommodate senior dogs or dogs with mobility limitations? No. Although we have ramps in the house, there are stairs to come in and out through every door, and due to the other dogs that will be here as well, we prefer not having senior dogs or mobility issued dogs stay with us. But we can work with you still and keep your senior dog at home with one of our trusted pet sitters while you travel. Our territory is East Haven, Branford, Guilford and Madison,
Can you administer medications? Yes. Stephanie and John can administer pills, and Stephanie can do insulin shots. We do NOT shove pills down the throat of a dog we do not know.
Can you accommodate special medical or behavioral needs? That will depend on the situation and what is needed. I can answer that better in a one on one conversation to learn the needs.
Do you offer overnight stays as well as daytime daycare? Yes.
What are your drop-off and pick-up hours? Drop off is between 6 and 8 am. Pick up for half day at 1pm. Pick up for the full day is between 5pm and 7pm.
What happens if I'm running late for pickup? Give us a heads up. John and I are only a phone call or a text away please let us know your schedule at drop off. If however we agree on a half day of daycare and you don’t pick up until after 2pm, the full day price will go into effect.
What happens if I need to pick my dog up early? Although prices do not change for an early pick-up, we are ok with an earlier pick up. We can also talk about John or Steph providing drop off should we have the availability.
What is your cancellation policy? We will confirm with you your dates and information twice. Should you cancel after the 1st conformation, there is no payment needed for us. However should you cancel after the 2nd confirmation, then we do expect to be paid in full. We block your dog's spot at our facility and each reserved spot takes away the availability for another client.
What happens if I need to extend my dog's stay unexpectedly? We understand things happen and there normally isn’t an issue with this. However we can also discuss details during your tie away to see how we can accommodate another day and what the prices will be
What if my dog gets sick while with you?
You will be updated immediately. Not all moments of sickness require immediate attention. Situations will be monitored and clients will be updated.
Do you offer discounts for multiple dogs from the same family? Yes. The 1st dog will be a our full price Ever additional dog will be at a lesser price
Do you have a minimum or maximum number of days for daycare? No. However if the fit works all around we would love to see your pooch with us often.
What services have an additional charge? An additional or longer walk other than what comes with your full or half day. The dog park runs to the Guilford dog park. Baths, either at our home or at a self bathing shop.
Are there additional fees for holidays or special circumstances? Yes. $5.00 extra per dog per holiday. New Years, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
How and when do I pay? We take cash, check an venmo. We require doggy day care payment at the end of the week and overnight stays we ask for half payment at drop off and half at pick up.
What happens if my dog needs emergency veterinary care while I'm away? We will be in contact with you daily and any situation that arises will be dealt with in a professional manner. We can take your dog to Central Vet Hospital or Piper Memorial at your request or the request of an emergency contact.
Who is authorized to make medical decisions for my dog if I cannot be reached? That will be on a case by case basis and we can go over your wishes during the meet and greets. If we step in for life saving measures, you will be informed.
What happens if my dog escapes or gets lost? Our home is entirely fenced in with a 6 foot tall vinyl/plastic fence. We do not anticipate any escaping. However should that happen, or should your dog escape its harness on a walk, all measures for bringing your dog home safely will be taken. Including contacting CT DOG GONE RECOVERY,.
What happens if my dog passes away while in your care? Every situation will be dealt with case by case. Doggy allergies, age, behavior and mobility will be taken into account for all incoming dogs to maintain safety protocols.
What happens if severe weather causes you to lose power or prevents normal operations? While we do not have a backup generator. John's parents house right next door, should we lose power but they do not. We are on city water. Steph’s family is close too for any needed essentials, as is Stop and Shop. We are not in an area that loses power often, however should that happen, clients will be contacted if we cannot manage.
What happens if you become sick or have an emergency while my dog is staying with you? There are 2 of us. If one of us is incapacitated, the other steps in, plus we have other sitters through the Love Pet Siting side we can call on.
What behaviors would cause you to refuse or end a dog's stay? We do not work with dogs that assert dominance over other dogs or people/excessive humping. We do not work with dogs with a history of aggression, snapping or biting. We do not work with dogs with zero recall, or dogs that mark inside the house.
What happens if my dog shows unexpected aggression? That happens, sometimes over balls or toys. If the situation is a one off, we stop the argument and move on. Should the behaviors continue, we will let you know that your dog needs to be separated, and why, and hope that the issues resolve on their own. If the issues continue and disrupt the flow of our daycare, we will ask you to pick up your dog.
What happens if my dog repeatedly mounts or humps another dog? We do not take dogs that assert dominance. Period. Since we offer meet and greets at the house prior to your stay, if this behavior is prevalent in the meet and greet, we will not be able to work with your dog. Should this behavior happen after you have dropped off your dog, will will either call and ask you to pick up your dog or it will be separated from the rest of our dogs for the duration of its stay. No refunds given.
What happens if my dog resource-guards food, toys, or people?
We understand that can be a typical canine behavior, especially with rescue dogs. We have a set up where animals can be separated, we can distract the dog with another toy or a treat, and remove the toy in question.
Are dogs ever separated from one another?
Yes. If dogs become aggressive, tired, need space, or are eating, we can separate them. We have crates, gates and gated off areas.
How do you handle dogs who are anxious, nervous, or overwhelmed?
John and Steph have worked with all manner of anxiety with the dogs we take care of. Although we can medicate if you want to go that route, we prefer to sit with the dog until we can calm the animal enough to ease the tension. Sometimes dogs away from their people do become anxious in the 1st day or so, but we find that dogs tend to soften within 3 hours of being away from their family, especially if you have used a doggy daycare/overnight facility in the past.
Will I receive updates about my dog during their stay? Yes. Often. We send pictures, videos and texts.
What should I do if I need to contact you while my dog is staying with you? We provide all guests with our phone numbers. Contacting us is easy.
Will you let me know if my dog isn't eating, drinking, sleeping, or behaving normally? Yes. Often that happens in a new situation but a dog will not let itself starve. Steph is used to sitting on the floor hand feeding nervous dogs.

How do you handle dogs who are anxious, nervous, or overwhelmed? John and Steph have worked with all manner of anxiety with the dogs we take care of. Although we can medicate if you want to go that route, we prefer to sit with the dog until we can calm the animal enough to ease the tension. Sometimes dogs away from their people do become anxious in the 1st day or so, but we find that dogs tend to soften within 3 hours of being away from their family, especially if you have used a doggy daycare/overnight facility in the past.
Will I receive updates about my dog during their stay? Yes. Often. We send pictures, videos and texts.
What should I do if I need to contact you while my dog is staying with you? We provide all guests with our phone numbers. Contacting us is easy.
Will you let me know if my dog isn't eating, drinking, sleeping, or behaving normally? Yes. Often that happens in a new situation but a dog will not let itself starve. Steph is used to sitting on the floor hand feeding nervous dogs.
